Renzo Piano Building Workshop for Château La Coste For a few weeks now, the new pavilion designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop for artworks and fine wines has supplemented the already extensive architectural offer of the Château La Coste property in Provence.

In the past month or so, we've seen how Château La Coste in the hills to the north of Aix-en-Provence, France combines the crafting of fine wines with the presentation of art and architecture. Here you can find works by architects like Jean Nouvel, Tadao Ando, permanent land art by Chinese artist Ai Weiwei (Ruyi Path) and now the pavilion designed by Renzo Piano.
This building is partly underground: because of the excavation going down 6 metres, the 285-square-metre building is almost imperceptibly embedded in the vineyard. This not only minimises its visual impact but it is also an advantage for the wine that is preserved in the cellar section.
Visitors access the pavilion designed by Renzo Piano along a ramp cut into the terrain that takes them to the entrance formed of a glazed facade. The white sail roof canopy echoes the patterns of the rows of vines and sets up a contrast with the bare concrete selected as the building material for the retaining and inside walls.
The interiors are composed of a showroom with sunlight flowing in from the large expanse of glass at the front and the rear windows that open onto a space dedicated to sculptures overlooking a body of water. A wine cellar is located in the underground area. The new pavilion designed by Renzo Piano perfectly embodies the art and wine combo that stands out in the whole concept of Château La Coste.
